Uno, Dos, Tres: Hello Fall

It’s the end of the month—in case you weren’t bombarded with a million fall like photos yet: It’s Fall.

I’m not really ready for it; not enough beach days this year. My tan was only so-so. Though I am happy that I can now wear more black. Yay, black everything!

To keep the mood festive, here three things that really made me happy this month:

Uno. Everyone and their mama is celebrating Lin-Manuel’s Hamilton! This is the one time in my life I’m actually jealous to not live in New York because it’s going to be a minute before it gets to Chicago. And when it does get here, it won’t be staring LMM :(. But the album was released yesterday, and all month I have been following them on Ig and youtube-ing excerpts of the show. So—imagine my surprise when the documentary my job is showing for Hispanic Heritage Month included Lin Manuel!? He comes in on Chapter Four, but PBS knocked this out of the park and you MUST start with Bridges!!

Dos. I have not been Catholic since my early days of college, but this Pope is speaking truths that people don’t want to hear and I’m loving that. I’m loving Sophie Cruz even more! Incredibly brave, intelligent, and loving little girl. I know a lot of people dislike the use of children in these things, like kids aren’t smart enough to understand these topics. While that can be true, children of undocumented parents live with a fear and sadness—she has a right to speak about her experience as a citizen even if she’s young. And how cute are her little braids?!

Tres. I am not ashamed to say that I have watched Documentary Now! The Eye Doesn’t Lie four times. And I will watch it again. First, if you love crime documentaries or criminal procedurals (both fact or fiction)-this episode does an amazing job of really staying true to the winning formula of those types of shows. But then you add Bill and Fred and it’s hilarious! If you even dabble in the criminal justice field then you’ll love the episode because the stubborn obtuseness of everyone is so maddeningly familiar, even when it seems outrageous.

And then I learned this is a spoof of “Thin Blue Line” the Grandfather of all crime documentaries and it’s even more amazing.
What has made you happy this month?!
