Happy Thanksgiving: Link Round Up
We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We are on the mend of a really bad head cold (in fact, I just googled “can I harm my brain from coughing,” because this cough is still something fierce). But instead of wallowing about being sick, I’m trying to enjoy having time off work and getting to spend quality time with family.
Though I know for many people it’s the beginning of high stress season with finals approaching. I mentioned on instagram that Thanksgiving as a 1L was so stressful and sad–so even though I’m sick, I’m still much happier today than when I had to work Black Friday and cram for exams during my breaks back in 07. Perspective is everything, so I hope your upcoming weeks aren’t so bad, but even if they are stressful, remember that things will eventually get better (easier said than done, I know)!
It’s the last Friday of the month so we’re sharing some of our favorite articles!
Forbes discusses the iron ceiling that women in Latin America face. Such a great topic because even while many countries in Latin America have had women presidents, the stats just aren’t always so good for women (especially when it comes to violence against women).
The Guardian discusses the discovery of mass graves in Mexico while searching for the missing students. At the same time, Latino Rebels takes a critical look at the letter sent by Senators to President.
Obviously, everyone has heard about Obama’s executive action on immigration. This article discusses the difference in lifestyle for immigrants depending in which state they live. I think it will be interesting to see how every state reacts to this new remedy.
Speaking of immigrants, this piece on migrant workers and our food system is fascinating. Many of us are so conscious about the quality of food we ingest and how the animals are treated, but we often don’t think about the people that pick our crops or pack our meats.
Moving on to women’s issues–The New York Times discusses gender pay gap and what employers can do to be better about wage equality. Refreshing to see advice aimed at employers for a change (after all they are the ones setting the wages).
This piece does discuss what we can do to create women leaders (hint: you start when they are young).
Ok let’s end of happier notes:
The weekend is here–lifehack discusses 12 weekend habits of highly successful people. Do you do any of them?
We’re still on the hunt for things that will actually shrink our pores, but Yahoo Style lists some tools that make help create the illusion of smaller pores (whatever works!).
Finally, if you didn’t think you needed to try out 17 new beauty products–this The Coveteur article may change your mind. Many are a high-end, but sometimes it’s nice to see how the other side lives!
