SideBar(ish): 25 things about me
I generally do a post about what I’ve been up to for the month, but I’m planning to make that a little bit more exciting (and visual!). So I’m changing it up this month and decided to do 25 things about me so you could get to know me better!
- I grew up in Indiana
- I am a makeup aficionado
- I am a proud member of the Beyhive and don’t even think of criticizing her one iota around me because I will ice you out of my life.
- In law school, I really thought I wanted to be a public defender. I am so happy I am not a public defender (much love to them, but that is not the path for me)
- I don’t have a very warm personality (I call it a resting bitch personality), not purposeful an am better once you get to know me, but also I’m not working on changing it.
- I’ll be married eight years this August! We married during the first week of my 3L year. He is not a lawyer.
- Whenever my husband and I reminisce about our wedding, it’s over how much we hated it! LOL I mean, we’re happy we got married but every.thing. was bad. So much cringe
- I’ve been to Europe three times and really only want to go back to Paris
- I prefer beach vacations over anything else. Maybe it’s the Panamanian in me.
- Yes, I’m Panamanian and Mexican. But usually I just say I’m Mexican.
- But I’m a horrible Mexican! I can’t do spicy food for the life of me. Like, my greatest shame is that the steak at Chipotle is often too hot for me!
- I don’t play any sports, at all. But I am a crazy fan of basketball. I prefer college bball and if I go to a game I will surely embarrass you while I yell at the players.
- I’m a hardcore fan of my college. It’s like overkill, but Valpo was the best time ever. I have a deep love for it.
- I am a lapsed Catholic. I love the cultural significance and how it’s an intricate part of my family (especially the women), but I don’t think I could ever return to the Church.
- This seems like a good time to mention that I’m an ardent and unapologetic feminist.
- I have two cats, who are my children and they are the light of my life. They guest star in many of my Instagram videos. The boy is Javert (from Les Mis) and the girl is Cici (Cecelia when she’s bad, which is often).
- My husband and I are building a house in Chicago. I’m counting down the days to move in!
- Since I didn’t play sports and was a latch-key kid, I basically just read and watched T.V. all the time. I love TV! My fave shows are criminal procedurals and anything about murder. My reading selections are more diverse.
- I got a degree in sociology with a concentration in criminology, so my fascination with crime is more deeply-rooted than just being weird.
- I’m embarrassed to admit that my favorite food is pizza, because I’m a grown woman not a ninja turtle, but whatever, pizza is bomb.
- Actually a big thing about me is that I’m a horribly picky eater. If I’m being honest–truth bomb here—it’s disordered eating. I’m not embarrassed to admit that, it’s a struggle lots of people have, but mine has manifested into issues with texture and smell so I basically don’t eat anything that strays very far from the standard American diet. Womp womp
- I can speak French and love this language. It’s so beautiful. My proudest moment in Paris was when I was able to tell a man in the grocery store that he forgot to take his ham from his cart. Yay high school French!
- I wanted to be a lawyer since I was a child. I really feel that being an attorney is a calling and a vocation, not just a job. However, now that I’ve been practicing, I’ve discovered a real passion in writing and am excited to see how that unfolds.
- I’ve always been into makeup, but I discovered youtube beauty gurus in 2010 while studying for the bar and my like turned into obsession. I LOVE makeup! And in my late 20s, I started throwing in skin care products. Trying new products make my heart happy!
- I make it a point to follow primarily women of color on Instagram/blogs. The market is just so saturated with beautiful white women, than I wanted to ensure my digital space exposed me to women that look like me and have similar experiences. It has been so empowering to see WOC wielding their social media power so passionately. I totally recommend gearing at least one of your pages (twitter, Insta, whatever) like this!
