Law School

Gift Guide for College Pre-Law Graduates

Happy Cinco de Cuatro! Lately, I’ve been starting my days in a much happier tone, and I think that’s because now that it’s getting warmer, I’m actually getting a sliver of real sunlight streaming into my office window. Like actual sun. I felt it streaming in the other day and was like, what is this?! Now I’m happy to actually feel sunbeams for a couple of minutes every day #itsthelittlethings. But speaking of things that make me happy: graduations! My family is celebrating a graduate in a couple of weeks and I’m so excited for her! Unique personalized gifts designed with some of our best memories are something I’m considering giving her, along with plenty of other useful stuff for her upcoming days at school. For those that have grads in their life heading to law school this fall, we’re sharing a gift guide to help the newest “0Ls” prep for their new adventure:

gift guide for incoming law students

One. Planner. My stance is that the key to success in law school is to plan a study schedule that will keep you organized and on top of everything. Many people might prefer to do so in some digital format, but actually writing down your plan commits it to memory better and feels a little more like a real commitment than when it’s entered on a device. Depending on the graduate, you can go very posh and professional or something with a more lively personality.
Two. Tumbler. I know I’ll never win the coffee battle (and hello, I still grab a cup almost every day before work), but a tumbler can encourage someone to brew at home (budget-friendly) and there’s no reason the tumbler can’t come with some fave tea options to encourage healthier drinking.
Three. Statement piece jewelry. Law school will have lots of networking events where business attire will be expected, but the events aren’t so formal that you can’t let some of your personality shine through. Statement pieces will be great accents in the sea of suits; plus, how great for the grad to always remember your support when they wear this piece?
Four. Sotomayor. I stan for RBG just like the best of them, but there’s no doubt that Sotomayor’s biography is filled with nothing but motivational inspiration. It’s a great summer read for a Latina that’s about to enter law school.
Five. An experience. Speaking of summer, if possible, look into providing an experience during their summer before law because fun, non-stressful experiences will not always be in stock during law school. Concerts, road trips, even a movie with drinks will be a great send-off before they start 1L year.
