Just the Right Amount of Color: Blushes for Work
One of my favorite parts of my makeup routine is putting on blush. It just livens up my face so much. Though to be honest, when I first started working I didn’t really use blush very often. It was a “special occasion” product. But then I started doing some trainings and more public speaking and caught myself on camera one day and was like oh…
Now I especially appreciate blush on days that I’m doing trainings because it just gives my look a little more dimension. So now, little by little, I’ve accumulated quite a stash and wanted to share some of my favorite blushes for work.
When I’m picking a blush for work it needs to be understated–I opt for mattes and deeper tones because I want to look a little flushed and not shimmery, and obviously it needs to work on brown skin.
My fave go-tos:
Maybelline-Make a Mauve: Probably my go-to during the winter. It’s creamy, so it helps when my skin is dry during the winter and it’s a deep berry color that just fits my tone nicely. The product is also super blendable.
Milani-Plumrose: This is actually a lipstick, but hey–dual purpose. A little goes a long way if you use this as a blush, but I like the berry tone and lasting power.
Urban Decay-Video: This is new to my arsenal, but I really love it! I had been searching for a taupe-y blush, which when you think of blush you usually think pinks not taupes, but this color is like my “color but better” in terms of blushes, so it looks nice and natural. Plus it’s long-lasting–it’s really great for when I have a long day at work or evening event planned.
WetNWild-Rose Champagne: It’s kind of like Video, but with shimmer rather than a matte. I like using this in the summer to give my face a bit of flush when I’ve tanned from vacations. I actually really like most of WnW’s blushes but this one is kind of unique in it’s tone that it gives my face a little extra.
Neutrogena-Flushed: Ok, so when you see this in the package it’s BRIGHT coral. When I first received it I was pretty sure I could not wear this for work–just way too bright, right? But then one Saturday I had a training and I thought, why not living it up, it’s a Saturday? The blush is so pretty and because it’s a matte powder it does not overwhelm the face. The color really makes me look like I’m just extra rosy not like I’ve glommed on a bunch of powder. This has been my go-to for public speaking events because it’s bright enough to carry over a room, but not so obvious when I’m standing next to someone.
