Latina Lawyer Gift Guide 2016
Gift giving is probably one of my favorite things. I just love finding something specific and unique for people in my life. We have done gift guides in the past and while the basic ideas stand (most new law grads would appreciate diploma frames and current law students need gift cards), I wanted to present a guide that was a little more creative, more community-based, and pieces that scream out our identity rather than bending into what’s expected of young professionals.
Most of the businesses here are small, Latinx-owned and have beautiful and unique items that many of you will love. Of course, if you like anything listed here make sure you check out Shop Latinx Biz, a directory of Latinx-owned business and they are bomb!
So here are my top picks for 2016:
- Very That. Very That is a Texan-based business and they have the most amazing crafts available. I actually own two of their tile pieces (the Selena one hang prominently in my office). She has a wall calendar available for 2017 and this would be a perfect size for a desk calendar or for a cube wall. Not only is it practical, but the Frida quotes help motivate you to keep working–or maybe you want the Chingona calendar instead? She’s offered readers here a discount code as well! Latinasuprising25
- Smear Campaign. Though not Latinx-owned, this is such an amazing idea that I had to include it! There are three lipsticks called Slut, Bitch, and Tease. The premise is to upend the idea that women are these three things or that we own our sexuality to anyone. It’s brazen and intellectual– along with really gorgeous lip colors.
- Fem Chic Apparel. There are a few Latinx owned shirt companies, but I keep going back to Fem Chic Apparel because they espouse their feminism openly and without apologies. The messages are clear and they have really cute typography! Use FL&LU for 15% discount!
- Chacha Nail Covers. I discovered these nail covers, over a year ago. I bought my first set in March and waited until September to use it!? Y tho? I love all her collections! The quality is amazing and the prints all go together seamlessly. Obviously, I wouldn’t wear this for a full blown trial, but on low-key weeks, I’ve worn a Frida cover as an accent and they are such a conversation piece.
