    Sidebar: Moving Day

Um, October was a whirlwind. We moved. Finally. It has been a long time coming but we have finally moved house. Whilst events leading up to this have been very stressful, I’m very excited for this next chapter in our lives. We do have a lot of things left to sort out though before we can finally call our house a home. So this has basically taken up all of my time. We were told that the house would be ready in a week, so we had to pack and get ready super fast. The house is amazing. Honestly, I could have moved anywhere because I had a lot of…

Sidebar: Is the World Ending? asking for a friend.

Wow. What a weird month. I have family in Tampa and prayed to Cristo Negro that they’d be safe. Thankfully they made it through, but then the horror in Mexico City, then more hurricanes–it’s too much. On top of all the political garbage… I avoid a lot of news and politics now because I know I can’t consume this horror in such a big scale. It’s too much. But I’m doing what little I can to help with DACA and the hurricanes aftermath. Ok, thankfully, not everything was horrible. Though, now that I think about it, it is kind of comical–E and I tried to celebrate the end of summer…

    Sidebar: love and hate

August is over. That means summer is over fr fr. But I guess Summer 17 ended with a bang? I mean, how do we get over what happened in Virginia? Wait, let me back up so this month my cousin returned to Florida to start her fall semester and I miss her so much!! šŸ™ She left the weekend of E’s birthday, so we did some mini farewell/bday meals before she left. Ā  Ā    Of course, the day after E’s bday we woke up to the protest in Virginia and it really shook me. Not because I don’t think the country is racist (it is) but because how impossible…

    SideBar(ish): 25 things about me

I generally do a post about what Iā€™ve been up to for the month, but Iā€™m planning to make that a little bit more exciting (and visual!). So Iā€™m changing it up this month and decided to do 25 things about me so you could get to know me better! I grew up in Indiana I am a makeup aficionado I am a proud member of the Beyhive and donā€™t even think of criticizing her one iota around me because I will ice you out of my life. In law school, I really thought I wanted to be a public defender. I am so happy I am not a public…

    Sidebar: Roller Coaster

Itā€™s already May! Like yes, you know that, but still April basically vanished. It was crazy busy for me. Mostly because I started the month thinking I was going to have to file a ton of cases because of an immigration form update, but thankfully, thereā€™s a delay on that so work is back to normal. But more importantly, the beginning of the month, I went to a great event that was so re-energizing and purposeful. It was a get together of amazing woke women and it was amazing. There were so many random and happy connections that I knew this empowerment group was made to be. I left with…

    Sidebar: Busy Bday

Itā€™s like almost the end of April and Iā€™m barely writing about March. Thatā€™s how cray things have been. So my March was ridiculously busy and Iā€™m not about to bore you so some highlights: The first weekend, I attended a Latina blogger conference in L.A. This was my second year and aside from learning new ways to make this site and community better, the best part of the trip was getting to meet my law school bestieā€™s new baby. Ā Baby G is so cute! Does anything feel better than a tiny babyā€™s little baby head? Omg, I died. The rest of the trip was good and informative, but obvi…

    Sidebar: Love and Mental Riots

So…I feel like my life is marked in pre & post-election. Like the bombardment of bad news, stupefying news, racist policies, behaviors, etc. etc. is enough to drive someone crazy. I feel like I’m constantly seething. To find a balance, I keep distracting myself (like everyone should) because I just can’t be “on” and available to react to all the stupidity coming from this administration all the time. But in the inside, I’m super angry. And because I’m also super petty, I’m relishing in a ton of schadenfreude because you know that’s healthy… But anyway, let’s keep this positive! A few weeks ago, I received my results from 23andMe! I…

    Sidebar: Netflix and Dread

Only three years, 11 months, three weeks, and two days before the next inauguration. And it can’t come soon enough. What’s always supposed to feel like a fresh start and clean slate, has been mostly a month of dread. I’m almost always anxious about these new policies, “leaders,” and what it will mean to my community. And if I’m being real, what it means to my potential employment because the federal funding for legal aid is potentially on the chopping block. I know I’ll survive these next four years, but I don’t envision that it will be easy. On a much more positive note, I’m not taking lying down nor…

    Sidebar: Good Riddance 2016

Ok first, major apologies for the dead air for the past few days! I had a plan and then got sick (which, don’t worry, I’ll definitely talk about in the next few paragraphs lol and that ruined everything–but on to the post:Ā  I guess I can say December was better than November because nothing (hopefully) can top November 9th, but that’s not saying much. Ok let me not be negative. A lot of good things happened this month– At work, I was promoted to senior attorney, which is maj. I’m actually really happy about that because, as nerdy as it sounds, I’ve wanted to make senior since I first heard…

    Sidebar: What Just Happened?

Thankful this month is over. I went in with such high expectations. And, well, dot dot dot. November 9th was the worst day of my career. Iā€™ve often dealt with clients calling in fear after hearing about raids or rumors in their communities, but this was so different. It was gut-wrenching. It was the end of hope. No reform, no protection, no rights. Itā€™s still so hard to think about. But this has also been a catalyst. I am changing some formats here to better serve my readers and community. First, in 2017, I will go to two post a week instead of three. This will allow me to do…
